Home Education Regulation Extension

Alberta Education has extended the expiry date of the Home Education Regulation AR 145/2006 to August 31, 2015.  According to the Department of Education, "This will give us time to review the regulation to ensure it aligns with the Education Act."

Regulation Review

The Education Act has passed 3rd reading in the legislature and in December it received Royal Assent.  The Education Act states it still needs to be proclaimed, and is showing such on the Alberta Legislature website and on the Alberta Education Website.  The Education Act will come into full force and affect once it has been proclamation.

According to the Alberta Education Website, "We anticipate the new legislation will come into force in time for the 2015-16 school year, once the regulatory review is complete and boards have had a chance to align their own policies and procedures."

The process of aligning all regulations to the Education Act is a large undertaking, and AHEA is praying that there will be no change in the intent of the regulation. AHEA remains in regular communication with Education Minister Johnson.

Please continue to pray for God's protection regarding the regulation.
