How will I know which buildings or rooms to go to? Either click on the location link below the name of the item on the website to view the location, or use the floor map and site map on the back two pages of the AHEA Convention Guide (given to you when you arrive.)

Registration

Can I register at the convention or do I need to register beforehand? You can register both before the convention and at the convention. Early-Bird entry prices end February 16th, 2020. You can view pricing and register online here: Convention Registration >>
I don't have a credit card. Can I register for the convention with cash or a cheque?

Yes, you can register using cash or cheque. Print page 3 of the convention brochure, fill it in, and mail it with your payment to:

I would like to add a lab/child/event to my previous registration. How can I do so?

Please contact the Office Administrator via our contact form.

Be sure to note the registration deadlines for each lab and event. No registrations will be taken after the closing dates.

If I have registered for the convention, but can no longer attend, can I get a refund?

Yes, but only before February 16, 2020.

Can I bring to bring my children (aged 5-12) without enrolling them in the Children’s Program? Yes, you can bring your children. They can stay with you the entire time but please ensure they are supervised at all times and do not cause disruptive noises during speaking sessions.
I can’t afford to come to the convention. Can you help?

Yes, we offer scholarships. Please contact the Office Administrator via our contact form.

If I have relatives coming to attend the Graduation Ceremony, do they need to register to attend? No, they do not need to register.
What are the Pay-at-the-door registration hours? Thursday: 6:00-9:00 pm
Friday 8:00 am - 4:40 pm
Saturday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm

New to Homeschooling

I’m new to homeschooling. How can you help me?
  1. Attend the free sessions on Thursday nights designed just for new homeschoolers.
  2. Attend the sessions labeled “new homeschoolers.”
  3. For one-on-one encouragement, go to AHEA’s New Homeschoolers booth and speak to the veteran homeschoolers there.

What time is the Exhibit Hall open? Friday: 11:30 am - 6:00 pm
Saturday: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
How will I know where to find specific vendors during the convention? When you receive the convention guide upon entry, turn to the back pages for a listing of exhibitors and floor plan of the Exhibit Hall.

AHEA Annual General Meeting

Can I attend the AGM without registering & paying for the convention?  Yes you can.
Is it important for me to attend the AHEA AGM on Friday night? Yes. You can have a say in both what AHEA is as an organization and what it does.
Do I have to be a member to vote for the board of directors at the AGM? Yes, you have to be a member to vote. In order to vote at the 2020 AGM, you must have purchased an AHEA membership before December 31st, 2019. Membership then expires at the end of the 2020 convention.

Children / Youth / Young Adults

Do you offer any special programming for children or for youth?

Yes, we have an enriching Children’s Program for children aged 5 to 12. Be sure to register early as it is capped at a certain number of children. You can learn more here: AHEA's Children's Program >>

Youth aged 12 to 17 have two tracks to choose from: a speaker track and labs. Please note there is a registration deadlines for the labs. Youth are welcome to attend adult sessions. On this note, adults are also welcome to attend youth sessions (except labs). Convention 2020 Youth Track >>

Your grade 12 student can sign up for a formal graduation ceremony complete with regalia gown and certificate to be held on Saturday. AHEA's Graduation Ceremony >>

Do you offer any special programming for young adults? Yes, we have a College & Career event on Friday evening. Young adults are also welcome to attend all speaking sessions. College & Career Event >>

Miscellaneous

Can I get recordings of the convention? Yes, they can be purchased from the recording company called M77 who will have a table in the large Prairie speaking hall.
Will there be a nursery/baby room where I can nurse or change my baby? Yes, there will be two. One upstairs and one on the main floor in the registration area.
What about parking? Westerner Park is graciously allowing us to park for free. However, if another evening event occurs (i.e. hockey game), we may be charged a fee in the evening for re-entry. This would affect the Friday evening events.
Where do I eat? A concession will be open during lunch on Friday and Saturday. Food cafes will also be available in the Exhibit Hall and in the main speaking hall, Prairie. Check the convention guide on page 3 upon entry for the confirmed locations.
Where do I put my coat and bags? Drop off your coat and bags at the Coat/Bag check in the Exhibit Hall (near the front door) and a donation to help the Central Alberta Homeschool Band.
How do I provide feedback about the convention? You can fill out the paper survey in the convention guide which you will receive upon arrival, or you can fill out surveys found on our website during and after the convention.
