Why Do You Attend Home School Support Group Meetings?

Another question that was asked on the AHEA Facebook Page - Why do you attend Home School Support Group Meetings?
*I will say if you aren't sure why you should attend a Home School Support Group Meeting, check out the Support Group Blogs on the AHEA website. smile
*Encouragement, new ideas, reviews of curriculum, socializing. Lots of reasons.
*A home school support group gives one access to information, ideas, resources and opportunities you might not otherwise find out about. They also can provide guidance on how to handle various aspects of the journey. Knowing others you can talk to and ask questions of who can relate to what you're doing is invaluable.

NEW Home School Support Group Page AND Listings!

Well, earlier in January, I spent about 10 days phoning through a couple of Support Groups lists. I updated all the info I could AND asked Home School Support Group Leaders (and those who let their names stand as contacts) what their home school support group was doing well.

Our webmaster just added all the info - the Support Group Page has been under construction for a few weeks - and WOW, does it ever look good. Check it out here - Home School Support Groups.

The list has been updated to alphabetical by town or city. Click on the name to access how to contact that Support Group AND under the contact information is what each support group is doing or has to offer. There will be some additional info added - some groups missed the deadline for the AHEA Home Matters magazine - but their info will be added shortly to the website. As always, the most current information will be on the website.

If your info isn't there OR needs to be updated (OR you want to change what your Home School Support Group offers after looking at how other groups worded their information....) contact Terry at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

ENJOY looking through the listings AND pass the link onto home school friends and family!

Why Attend a Home School Support Group?

I was checking out some blogs today and found a great blog encouraging new AND veteran home schoolers to attend Support Group Meetings. It is definitely worth reading. Why Home School Support Groups Are Important (for Veterans and Newbies).

Not sure if you need to attend a Support Group Meeting anymore? Why not think about being a blessing to AND mentoring some new Home School moms?

I firmly believe support for home educating moms / families / children is important AND often we find it at our local Home School Support Group Meetings.

No support group where you live? Consider being the contact or leader for your area. Contact Terry at This email address is being protected from spambots. Home School Support Group Tip!

I just updated all the Home School Support Groups in Alberta - spent hours on the phone over the past 10 days, talking to Support Group leaders and members. Updating information, writing down what each support group is doing well AND more. One of the neatest things I noticed was that quite a few Support Groups have Facebook Pages and how well those are working for those groups. I actually was so inspired I started a Facebook Page for our area - wow, what a good way for those online to connect. Easy to share information, encouragement and more. Watch for the updated Support Group lists here - our webmaster is totally revamping everything on that page AND the Support Group information will be current as of Jan. 15, 2013!{jcomments off}

Are you looking forward to your Home School Support Group Meetings and Gatherings?

This isn't really what I want to blog about, but I have been having trouble this week getting items on the blog, so I will try this today.

I just spent a considerable amount of time early this morning outlining all the upcoming events and gatherings for our local Home School Support Group.  We are just a small, rural group, but are pretty active in getting together formally and informally.

Some of the events we have planned are, of course, our Home School Support Gorup Meetings and weekly Home School Swims.  We also have a Home School Gym once a month.
