It Is NEVER Too Late To Bring Your Kids Home

its_never_too_late
Dear Parents,

How are things going with your children? Do you wish you had more input and time with each one of your children? Have you been thinking about having more say into how and what they are taught?

Home Schooling is an excellent option in Alberta. Why not join the Home School Community of Alberta? It is a strong, passionate community encouraging parents to meet the individual needs of their children. Parents have, and are, taking the plunge into home schooling as you read this.

Why would you choose to home school your children? Home schooling = Freedom!

  • Academics:
    • Home Schooling isn't hard to do.
    • Children can excel academically as home schoolers.
    • You will know exactly what your child is learning.
    • Your children get to learn their way and at their pace.
    • You want your child to love learning and to follow their interests.
  • Socialization:
    • You can teach your child practical life skills and academics
    • There is better socialization with much less peer pressure and unhealthy bullying.
    • Children can have time for creative play and following their interests and talents.
  • Priority on Family:
    • Families get to spend the best hours of each day together!
    • You get to teach your children the values that are important to you.
    • You can to be the master of your own schedule and decide what works best for your family.
    • There is flexibility in learning and lifestyle.
    • You want to spend more time with your child / children.
    • Your child is asking to home school.
    • Your child has special needs and would do better at home.

You do have the freedom to educate your children at home anytime you wish. You can still make a
decision to home school your children, and until Sept. 28, 2018 the funding will follow your child to the
new board you choose to register with. It is better to decide before then, of course, but you will find
boards are often open to accepting students throughout the year because they are passionate about your
freedom to choose and the benefits that home education brings. Call a few to help decide which one you
would like to go with and ask for help. All of them want to help your family succeed at home education.

What do you need to do? Fill out a Notification Form and a copy of a birth certificate or passport for
each child to the home school administration of your choice. Once your family has been accepted, bring
your child home!

Adult Sponsorships for the National Home Education Conference

Hi Everyone!

The Alberta Home Education Association would like to extend an invitation to you, our Home School Leadership in Alberta and AHEA Families.

As some of you may be aware, the annual National Home Education Conference, formerly known as the National Leadership Conference,  is being held in Edmonton this year. The dates of the conference are September 13 - 15.  You can find out more information regarding the conference here.

This Conference is a wonderful way to train and equip home educating individuals and couples for  home school leadership in our Province, as well as to connect with home school leadership from across Canada who will also be in attendance. The AHEA Board has made it a priority for Board Members to attend for many years and would love to encourage as many as possible AHEA members to attend this year, too.

AHEA has allocated funds to sponsor a number of registrations for individual AHEA members or anyone involved with home school leadership in Alberta.

Please note: transportation, accommodation, meals, and other expenses are not covered by the sponsorship.

In order to apply for the AHEA sponsorship to NHEC 2018, please download and fill out our PDF application form, and email it to Terry Yaceyko at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by August 15th, 2018.

Youth Sponsorship for the National Home Education Conference

 Hi Everyone!

The Alberta Home Education Association would like to extend an invitation to you, our Home School Teen Leadership in Alberta.

As some of you may be aware, the annual National Home Education Conference, formerly known as the National Leadership Conference, is being held in Edmonton this year. The dates of the conference are September 13 - 15. You can find out more information regarding the conference here.

There is a teen track at this conference and AHEA would like to sponsor 2 individual registrations for the Youth Component of the Conference.

Please note: transportation, accommodation, meals, and other expenses are not covered by the sponsorship.

"iNegotiate – International Diplomacy and Human Rights

This program presents students with a hands-on opportunity to learn about the challenges faced by diplomats and foreign ambassadors at an international summit. Throughout the program, your student will have to choose between making demands and exercising diplomacy; forming alliances and burning bridges. They will have to know when to speak and when to bide their time. They will be forced to make decisions and accept responsibility for how those decisions impact the nations they represent. In the midst of a fun and engaging environment, they will get a glimpse of the weight and responsibility that comes with great power and influence. Their character will be grown, their minds will be stretched, and to be successful, they will need to act with honor, integrity, and much wisdom. We look forward to seeing how God uses this in the lives of our members, and we would like to invite you to send your student to be an ambassador at Generation Joshua's iNegotiate.

Please note, the iNegotiate program requires a certain number of participants to be successful, if not enough teen registrations are received the teen program may change."

In order to apply for the AHEA sponsorship to NHEC 2018, please download and fill out our PDF Application form, and email it to Terry Yaceyko at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by July 31, 2018..

UCP AGM In Review

As always, AHEA encourages its members to be politically active and advocate for the rights of parents and home educating in Alberta. May 4-6, the United Conservative Party had its Founding AGM and voted on many new policies. Many policies were submitted by AHEA members and AHEA Board Members. Thanks so much to everyone who participated in this way!

Because of your efforts, parental rights in education were solidified as a policy for the UCP!

The exact wording of the passed policy is as following:

"The United Conservative Party is committed to affirming the right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children."

This is a very significant stance for the UCP party to take and one that is of great value to home educators.

Another policy which passed is very important for home educators R106) "The UCP party is committed to parental choice in education, in both form and content." The 'form and content' component is very significant in AHEA's advocacy work with the UCP party!!

There is more to the Annual Convention than buying!

I shared this on AHEA's Facebook Page a few days ago and thought it is a good reminder for many of us.

"Just so you know, there is so much more to the annual AHEA Convention than the Exhibit Hall and buying. (I must say I love looking at curriculum and books, and have bought a lot through the years...) BUT the Exhibit Hall and buying isn't the most important thing for me ...

I would highly recommend checking out the sessions available (both the keynotes and other sessions) and attending as many as possible. So often, I would come to the Convention drained from months of home schooling and pouring myself into our children.... As I attended the different sessions, I "always" got recharged for another year of home educating.

*Of course, you want to take some time to look at curriculum (and try to buy what you need at the Convention!), but renewing your vision for home schooling is what will keep you going for the long haul. Don't get distracted by shopping.... Get the encouragement you *need* this weekend (April 12 - 14, 2018) to keep home schooling your children!
