Alberta Support Groups and AHEA - Open Lines to Communicate

I am pleased to see the many support groups available to home educating families in Alberta. Your diverse groups are vital in addressing needs on the front lines for home educating families.  The numerous support groups that are active and vibrant throughout the province provide parents and their children with timely and much needed support including wonderful educational activities, sharing times to receive and give encouragement, and many varied opportunities to build friendships. It is so important home education is supported in this way, and that new groups find ways to get started.

Support Group Leaders are not only on the front lines of structuring and implementing a vision that is beneficial to their particular area and group, but they are also instrumental in assuring the growth of the home school movement. AHEA recognizes this and desires to increase its support of Support Group Leaders (SGL) by encouraging ongoing communication.  There may be things we could do for your groups to help you to increase your effectiveness. To this end the AHEA convention team has prioritized providing another Support Group Leaders' discussion group at this year's April 2005 AHEA Convention. In the past two conventions, enthusiastic leaders from all over the province passionately shared their group's background, issues relevant to home educating parents, problems they may have experienced, and successful happenings in their group.

We continue to encourage any support groups in Alberta to submit articles introducing their particular group, location, activities, members, frequency of meetings, executive etc. to be shared in a regular 'Support Group Feature' in the AHEA magazine.  We'd love to hear from you.
