Testimonials for HSDLA ~

We are a traditional family and love homeschooling and the protection that we feel with HSLDA.  We began our homeschool journey after several years of public education in the system.  One of the greatest blessings has been watching up close our young children turn into fully functional adults with amazing contributions and skills.  We have been home educating for 8 years now and have 3 adults age 18,17 and 15 all who are capable, contributing members of our community.
We as a family are actively involved in our church and help out in ministry to the poor.  One of the major reasons we have chosen to haveHSLDA insurance includes the fact that when we plan an activity for our homeschool group we are protected by their group liability insurance.  It is really comforting to know that our back is covered and we will be cared for if neighbors or relatives happen to not understand our way of life or education plans.  We have also appreciated the advice and wisdom in the magazines.

Thanks A Lot, HSLDA

HSLDA has been a part of our family's lives since we joined way back when my . . .

. . . oldest child was required to be registered with the Department of Education when we officially began our home school journey in Nebraska.  Come to think of it, they were a part of our lives even before we knew they existed.  You see, they were fighting for the rights of home shcoolers as well as families so we could enjoy the benefits of these advocates for freedom who were letting their voices be heard in places we could never go.

Even though my children are grown now and in post secondary, we're still members.  Why? Well, we wholeheartedly believe in the rights of the family and know no other organization that is making such a difference in the lives of parents to home educate their children.  In addition to this, if my children ever have any obstacles to overcome to get into other post secondary institutions in the future, they will still be there to assist us, if need be. Furthermore, Lord willing, we want to stay on board as members even after they're done their schooling because I firmly belive that we are investing in future generations.

You may wonder if they have they ever done any thing personally for us.  Actually, there were two crucial times I called them and they pointed me in the right direction so that I was able to confidently continue on.  Once was when we were moving from the U.S. to Alberta and I was immensely concerned about how the home school laws would change our home school life (which I was quite happy with).  I was promptly given some helpful advice pertaining to the choice of a school board. You see, we were traditional home schoolers and that critical information made all the difference in our home school journey. Looking back, if I had signed up with a board that did not suppport my style of home schooling, I might have been stressed out and struggled my way through.  Another important time that I called was when my oldest daughter was applying to go to college. We thought everything was in place because we had been in contact with the college two years prior to her applying.  Even though we made it clear that she would not have an Alberta Learning Diploma (which was fine with them), close to the deadline to get into college, they decided that she needed this documentation.  After speaking with Paul Faris, I was equipped to meet with someone in the registrar's office.  I was then able to converse boldly about home schooling and so within a short time, she received her acceptance letter.

In closing, I want to say that most every year it was a challenge to come up with the membership fee, not because it was  expensive but because we were on such a limited income. (As a side note, HSLDA now gives the option of a monthly withdrawl out of one's bank account--about $10.00 per month, instead of paying the lump sum.  How cool is that?) It never was an option to be without it because it was the most important purchase we ever made for our home school.

Thanks again HSLDA. We love you!
