One of the newest things I noticed (while calling through and updating the Home School Support Group List) was that quite a few Support Groups have Facebook Pages. I always like to check out pages and make sure the names or links work, so I did that when I typed up the new list.
While checking out all the Facebook Pages, and listening to Support Group Leaders or members share how well the pages are working for them, I got inspired to start a Facebook page for the Support Group in our area. I just wanted to try it and see if it would work for our group.
Well, it WORKED great for our group. It was so easy to connect with each other. I got inspired and started some new home school gatherings for our area - parties, craft afternoons and more - and had a really good response from the families in our area. (Note: It didn't work for everyone and I do have a list of families that are email only, but there are many on Facebook already, and it works excellently for them!)
Anyway, I was thinking about it. The AHEA Board has talked about a Facebook page now and then - so I offered to get it started and look after it. I think it is looking great, too. It will be perfect for passing on political information and updates, AND already has encouraging links and tips on it, as well. If you are on Facebook, why not join the Alberta Home Education Association page? Ask questions, post comments, update support group info AND more!
